Merry christmas and a happy new year!

Yes, today is my last day at work before my 2 weeks holidays where I will kick back and relax as much as I can before going to the french alps. Unfortunately I havent had time to prepare all I wanted before holidays, so these things will have to wait until next year.

Merry christmas and a happy new year all!

Reactor exploit scandal

Two days ago it was discovered that there was a bug in the starbase reactors that would let you create high end materials for T2 production without actually fuelling it with the necessary compounds. This exploit has, according to the reporter, been around since 2004 and also been used by a numerous people, corps and alliances.

According to the post on another fansite by a person who claims he found it, the revenue of this exploit since 2004 estimates to several thousands of billions of ISK.

CCP made a post about it here and decided to ban the players and their accounts after a days worth of investigation in the matter. As a result, most of the T2 market prices has now gone drastically up in price. I guess this is due to a few things. First of all I believe that speculation is behind the bigger part of the price increase, but naturally, it will also be because of this exploit as the availability of these components will drop quite fast and hence prices go up.

Anyway. Another dark day for New Eden nontheless. No wonder all those T2 BPO’s always sold for so silly amounts, anyone with that much money could easily buy them all. The market is indeed screwed. Makes me wonder if the best way forward wouldnt be to just put those BPO’s bought from dirty money back in the agent lottery again.

Discuss it here.

Site down

Hi!

A few days ago, EVE-Sweden.com went down for unknown reasons. It seems it had to do with a server restart my ISP did and after server came back up something was screwed up with the rails settings. I found a workaround for it, but who knows how long it will stay up now.

I have some plans of moving host, or framework, or something.. we’ll see. Not much else than some gaming has been going on lately (stuffed with RL work) so we’ll see what happens this christmas.

Where did all the EVE podcasts go?

Recently I have started to listen in to the different EVE podcasts out there with great amusement. Unfortunately, it seems them all have gone quiet. What happened guys? Busy IRL it would seem, just like myself. Been home sick and as soon as I got better the kids got sick, so had to stay home with them for a few days.

December is approaching faster than a polycarbed vagabond, so hopefully the winter break will bring some nice stuff over here. A little competition will be held during the days off work this christmas for members here so stay tuned. Some decent prices are promised so checkout the forums for more info.

As Silicon Buddah usually says, fly like you stole it! And Malnor Zerchan and you other EVE podcasters, please bring us some more stuff to absorb on the way to work will’ya!

Thanks must go to the following podcasters (in no specific order) out there who do a great job at it.

Crovan, CrazyKinux, Alsedrech – Drone Bay

I’m soon going to Iceland, yes I know the timing is bad – Fanfest was last weekend. I go with my job tho, so it will be conferences and other fun stuff there but I will definitely visit CCP offices!

Quantum Rise deployed!

Oh! I could’nt go to sleep so I stayed up and worked with a few projects of mine and now it’s time to install the latest patch from CCP, Quantum Rise!

It’s going to be exciting to see how weapon grouping works, and to see if EVE has become any faster. A few other updates, I’m working on a new EVE project that will hopefully be up before the end of the year. Nice as hell, it’s a webapp that will run on Django. Right after this I will also look over the members section and port it to the same tool.

Time to try out Quantum Rise! Patch notes here.

Network stability and GBC losses

Hey ya’ll!

Been a while since last, as usual, things seems to be never ending. The only hope for a breather is christmas, which will be a nice downtime for me.

Oh well, as of tonight and about 6 hours back, EVE have been hit by serious network lag. Something is seriously wrong as TQ is not accepting more than 13k players at the time. During the last hour or so I have reconnected almost 20 times. Now, 22:49 CET, the servers are down for reboot once again (second unscheduled reboot today) so hoping they fixed the lag issue this time.

Lots of rumors are going around it has to do with GBC reinforcements taken to the front where they’ve lost many ships the last days. That is, of course, a big pile of shit as you might have guessed. Funny anyhow :-) There were actually some serious fighting over the last couple of days over at E-O. GBC forces have been heavily in combat with NC troops. Go check out the details over at BoB’s killboard and Mosus Mihi’s killboard. Among a few, several carriers, dreadnaughts, motherships and even a titan has gone down!

He has also setup a speedlinking list which basically is a set of useful links to related EVE stuff.
No more ghost training

Oh well, CCP decided to nerf skill training this time. I cant say I fancy their actions on this one as I think its one of the cool things that makes EVE a better game than the rest MMOs. Its now however a fact from today onwards, if your accout goes inactive, your skill training will stop immediately.

CCP, rethink this one for next patch. If this is for the sake of money, you wont get more from me because of it.

Empyrean Age 1.1

Today the Empyrean Age 1.1 patch will be delpoyed to servers. It has a lot of bug fixes but also some other major changes coming one of them being the change how fast CONCORD arrives and its effectiveness when illegal fighting occurs in high sec space.

The security hit when pirating is also drastically increased, so biggest changes here is anti-pirate stuff. It’s now also possible to kill noob corp players in 0.0 without getting a standings hit towards that corporation.

Another good thing is that you are now able to clone jump to a clone in a station you are currently docked in without loosing the other. All due to “an improvement in the Jump Clone mechanism” hehe.

Members area next

Phew! Now the major part of the translation work is done. An extension for Radiant is installed, configured and in use. Other parts of this site is now also using Globalize plugin for Rails, since it (ruby) has no support for different locales (unfortunately). This is a shame as it really is quite a bit of work to get it working good when it comes out of the box in languages like Python.

To the point. Next thing that will get updated now is the Members area. Yes, that’s right. First it will be translated so it also it will be available in Swedish. Then it will get a major rework from the proof of concept code I wrote up some months ago now. Great things indeed!

Oh one last thing. This site is, and will remain, a free service. I spend the few hours I have on this website and would appreciate any donations or help I can get. Send ISK donations (any amounts, everything counts) to “Mr Goldfish” or atleast use my banner on this page (the one next to the top news to the right) to purchase game time cards.
Multilanguage support (finally)

This weekend EVE-Sweden.com will finally get multilanguage support. I have put some time in choosing and testing a good solution out and now is the time to add it up. This may cause some downtime or technical problems with the site, but it should be most temporarily.

Some more stuff coming up. The members section will get a rework and more stuff added to as soon as the multilanguage support is up. Those of you who registered, select your main char in the settings so you get data from it. Those of you who havent registered, do so! It’s free and will grant you some nifty tools in a short bit.

All good, fall is on the way, which means more EVE. Hurray!

Speed nerf soon @ Tranquility

If you havent done so yet, go check out the speed nerf devblog before it hits the servers. This will have quite some inpact on how the game is played today, so it will be something I will watch closely.

I dont mind changing the way speed works today, I think some ships are quite a bit unbalanced in both ways so lets hope it improves the game for us all.

Home sweet home

I’m finally home again, back at work and the usual business. Home sweet home ey.

Lot’s of stuff is planned for the site, but the question is when it all will be released. I have got a bit back-tracked by another project that I’m currently working on and hope to find some more time. First and foremost, the multilanguage support will be introduced fully over the entire site.

The forums are updated, so please check it out and come with ideas or feedback. Both swedish and english sections are up, and dont require you to create an account first (for the lazy ppl).

Hope you all had a nice summer break, I sure had!

Multilanguage support

From the beginning, EVE-Sweden was supposed to be a swedish site for swedish players only. After a while this seemed like a stupid idea so I decided to make it multilingual. However, the swedish audience was smaller than the english one, so I decided to reprioritize the swedish support (crap I know).

Today I’m happy to announce that at least the forums have been upgraded (Nabble2) and also rearranged so that both a swedish and english section exists. Go ahead and check it out!. Please also remember that you can post without first registering now. Use the feedback/aterkopplings sub-forums to post anything you think is missing or should be changed – all feeback is welcome!

Now, I’m going to eat a very nice serbian lunch and I’m already a bit late. Have fun, play some EVE and check out the new forums!

DreamHack review

Finally, a summary of this years summer DreamHack event @ Elmia Fair Centre in Jönköping, Sweden. As usual, this event is the smaller one each year where the winter event is the bigger one. This year no world record was broken, which has been DreamHack’s usual thing to brag about – worlds biggest lan party.

A few good and a few bad things. It was nice to see Telia (yes, I usually dont say positive things about Telia) supply 40 gigabit fibre to the LAN gamers which was truely freaking fast. It was well organized as usual, easy getting up to speed and no techincal problems with the network.

On the negative side, I would have expected CCP to be at the event like they did last summer but their abscence was duly noted. The worst thing though was the abscence of EVE gamers. During the whole event, we only met two EVE gamers. And we looked long and hard.

This was extra unfortunate as we brought flyers and copies of the awesome EVE Strategic Maps from a Serenity Steele who now also is a CSM vice chairman. A proper review of this will be posted the next few days.

Another cool thing was that we met up with United Avatars outsude the place. I had a small chat with Thor Olof and another guy I worked with at IDG some time ago. If you have’nt done so, go check out their website over at www.avatarsunited.com.

I must also give some creds to the guys incharge of the music @ DreamHack. My friend is a professional DJ and we both thought the music sucked a bit in the early hours of sunday morning. So we went over to the main stage and talked with the people in charge of the music asking if we could play a set and 1 hour later my friend was on stage entertaining some thousands of gamers. Check it out.

Last, but not least. If you missed the event, or just want a quick peek, head over to YouTube and check out the relive dreamhack clip.

Not sure if I will go next year, the lack of EVE interest was a big dissapointment. I’m now planning to go to FanFest instead in the future, starting maybe this year. Stay tuned.

Back from cruise and new forums

I’ve been away on a 36 hour cruise to Finland with Silja Serenade which was good fun and nice relax after the somewhat troublesome vacation in Turkey. No kids just pure relax and recovery.

I have also updated the forums here so anyone can post anonymously without creating an account first. What I saw as a temporary solution might be good enough for what I want it to be. The new Nabble 2 is indeed nice looking. We’ll see how it does a bit later on. Please report any problems in the Feedback forum, thanks!

Dreamhack over

We’re back home again after doing dreamhack for the third year in a row. The event had more outdoor activities and some nice e-game tournaments but it was with a sadness in my eye that CCP was’nt there like last summer. Worst of all, not many EVE players had come to the event, we only met 2 except me and my friend who went with me.

Check out the photoset over at Flickr for some of the action there.

Now, 3 days later with not a lot of sleeping, it’s time to chill a bit. Over n out.

EVE Strategic Maps

I’m pleased to announce that I have received two copies of EVE Strategic Maps in the post yesterday. I have done a first quick browse through the region maps and the detail and quality of the material is just top-notch. I can just image what great asset this is when flying real time not having to rely on the somewhat tricky in-game map browser.

I will bring both copies with me to DreamHack this weekend, so if you are interested and what to have a look swing by table D61, seat 17! I will ofcourse roam around the fair center with the maps with me so if you see a Ceptacemia t-shirt, that might very well be me :o

Empyrean Age deployment

As I type this, the latest expansion to EVE-Online is being deployed. It’s with great amusement I’m reading the offline page over at EVE-Online website. It’s such a nice feeling when time for startup is getting near. I’m having high expectations for this release as it will bring more combat into EVE and that can’t be bad. Some of the updates are really interesting, so dont miss out on the patch notes.

Oh and another thing, Sweden plays Greece tonight in the European Football Championships. Nothing but a win is an acceptable result. Go pwn them greeks gogogo!

Finally, DreamHack is approaching fast. If you are going, post where in this thread on the forums and we can meet up.

Empyrean Age

War is coming. Empyrean age is upon us. Caldari relations with Gallente is breaking apart. A Nyx mothership crashes in to one of the Caldari stations in Malkalen. War is certainly coming.

The new expansion Empyrean Age is soon upon us and it will be with great interest we get some more details regarding this. More updates to come. Check out the Empyrean Age minisite over at EVE-Online website.

Some more updates. Workload has been huge as of late and updates to the site has cut more or less. Preparations for Dreamhack has consumed the little time left but hopefully things will get a bit better coming weeks.

I also hope to be able to present a full review of the EVE Maps. Unfortunately, I havent got a copy yet but with a little luck I might be able to get my hands on one soon.
More member updates

Some new functionality is added to the members area, but I’m still struggling with API issues of various sorts. Hope to have them solved soon, I got in contact with Reve author today which is cool. Reve is the API library used in ruby for communicating with the EVE servers.

I have dedicated 1 hour per day now until the Dreamhack event to get the members area finalized so hopefully you’ll notice some new things every day.

Dreamhack Summer 2008

I’m happy to announce that EVE-Sweden will go to Dreamhack this summer. This will mean some interviews with the gamemakers of EVE-Online as they usually go there with some of their nordic staff. Last year they hosted a PVP tournament, so I hope this will be repeated this year too. Was quite funny to use a character with mazed out skills and just have at it 5 on 5 :-)

Anyway, more info on this soon. Our seats in the main hall are D61:19, D61:17 and D61:15. Are you going too? If so, post where you will sit in here and swing on by our place and say hello!

Members area

At the moment I am doing a lot of work on the members area and quite a bit of progress is being made. I have solved several issues with the API and I’m currently refactoring lots of code to the new requirements. Some features are already up, but many new things will come in the next few weeks. Before the summer break most will be in place for sure.

Oh, and one a sidenote. Those of you who already registered need to re-register since a slight problem occured yesterday. Apologies for this, wont happen again I promise! :-)

If you havent do so yet, sign up now! and dont miss out on the cool features and sweet prices to win!

No more cheap shuttles

In the latest patch (Trinity 1.2) NPC stations have stopped selling shuttles for a fixed price (9,000 ISK). This means that price on shuttles will be more inline other stuff on the market. Before, the price on tritanium was capped at 3.6 ISK per unit as you would get a certain amount of trit out of a shuttle which had capped price.

No more buying thousands of shuttles and selling it when trit price was higher than 3.6 ISK per unit :S

Source code leak

Yesterday it seems some part of the EVE-Online client source code was leaked through torrent sites. A lengthy transcript was also released between the source and CCP customer support. Since this has to do with the client only, I doubt that there will be much consequences of it, I sincerely hope so anyway. I just wish that people could solve disputes in a more adult manner… oh well.

Some rumors about people getting banned for discussing or downloading the contents was demented by CCP staff yesterday.

I’m happy to say that the members registration will be up and running this weekend, I have finished most of the restful authentication and also worked out issues regarding account handling. During this weekend (12th-13th of april) the registration will be open and very shortly features will be added to those registered. Dont miss out, it will be a nice little “toolbox” for EVE players.

Trinity 1.2

Yay, it’s time again. Trinity 1.2 is being deployed in tuesday 15th of april. This update will see most bug fixes and not so much new content. A few things will be important tho, and hopefully improve speed. I think a lot of players needs to go check on your anchored containers since they will be removed if they havent been interacted with for more than 30 days.

We will also see faction drones hit the market which will be a nice addition to the regular tech1 and tech2 versions.

On the technical part EVE is moving over to Stackless Python 2.5.2 from 2.5.1 which apparently includes over 100 bug fixes. Hopefully this will be experienced inside the game.

Dont forget to put a long skill on before downtime as it will most likely take more time than designated.

Another patch delay

As you might know, the trinity 1.1 patch is being deployed and now 5 hours over estimated time at the writing of this post and still no info on the progress. I might sound a bit harsh but have CCP not heard of test and stage environments? I know things might screw up from time to time, but roll it back and deploy another day if you find something that might cause extra downtime.

I hope the patch brings more joy to the game, im pretty sure some of the ship changes will be cool but also some overview changes to EWAR and such is going to be interesting.

Go go go CCP!

Very well played, Ev0ke

First, what an amazing display in the final by Ev0ke and Triumvirate in the Alliance Tournament 5 today. Just wow. Speechless.

Triumvirate taking on KIA in the quarter finals and very nearly lost it but turned it over and finally won to take on Pandemic Legion in semis. And what a match that was. Triumvirate showing how powerful a triple blasterthron can be, also to a dual logistics setup. KIA, loosing out in the end, played well I must say. Some questionable moves, but a very good few matches up the quarters.

Ev0ke, who won vs HUN Reloaded in the quarters with a very interesting triple tempest setup that more or less crushed HUN Reloaded’s pure rupture setup. Later on in the semi they took on Cry Havok who brought a triple domi/guardian vs Ev0ke’s abaddon/dual guardian/curse/ashimu. This was a very, very close one. Both teams on equal points but a stalemate would see Cry Havok continue to finals so Ev0ke had to atleast win by a few points. In the last minute, Ev0ke shot down one of the domis in which would be the only ship downed.

So… the final. Wow. Ev0ke bringing a harbinger, curse, 6 ruptures and a vigil. Triumvirate bringing 3 megas, 1 hookbill, 2 mallers and 4 griffins which was a bit suprising since thats exactly the setup they brought vs Pandemic Legion in the semis. Needless to say, this was two non-logistic setups with lots of dps and lots of fun. And sure it was. Initially, Ev0ke got a few griffins and both mallers. At the same time the Ev0ke harbinger and a rupture saw the end and went pop and it all looked bad for Ev0ke. And it kept rolling like that until the end, trading punches until Triumvirate only had one mega left which got sucked dry by Ev0ke’s curse and slowly slowly went down.

Very well played Ev0ke for the win of the 5th alliance tournament, but also Triumvirate as well as Pandemic Legion and Cry Havok who were all semi finalists.

Boost patch a.k.a. Trinity 1.1

OK so a new mysterious patch is on the way to the Trinity server with the name “boost patch”. Unfortunately, there is no patch notes available and the server will be patched in less than 12 hours at the writing of this post.

Some rumours say that assault frigates will get a boost as are some of the previously announced changes to omen, zealot, ferox and eagle ships. If the Deimos will lose a low slot is not know, but it looks like it will stay as it is now with no further changes.

Let’s hope CCP can come out with a patch note soon. Read more about it in this forum thread over at EVE-Online’s website.

5th Alliance tournament - bombers FTW

I’m still amazed by the firepower of the stealth bombers and the alpha strike capabilities of them. In the 5th alliance tournament Goonswarm struck RONA alliance quite hard and got a clean sweep in the end. After the logistics of RONA was down, it was just a matter of time before it was all over. Nice and solid work.

Recon FTW

I had my first little taste of the wonderful recon ships (falcon to be precise) and wow it’s great fun! The ECM power of the caldari recon is just outstanding. Wont leave home without one or two if possible in the future.

More updates – the members area is steadily moving towards opening. More news will follow shortly. Only thing that can be said now is that it will be unique and very useful for offline or online activities. A signup form will be up shortly, dont miss out!

Ship balancing changes

With the newly announced ship balancing changes caldari will enjoy some upgrades to their ferox/moa class railgun platforms. This will surely be welcomed as they lacked in many aspects before. Also the Amarr Zealot will benefit the same upgrade. The Gallente Deimos however, will strangely enough be stripped from one of it’s low slots and boosted with a repair bonus. This seems strange to me since this ship is all about hit-n-run, and do it very hard. One less low slot will impeed the damage output but increase survivability. This ship is’nt about survivability or tanking nontheless. Hope they reverse that change…

We’ve also seen some totally new shiptypes, one of them being Electronic Attack Frigates. These new shiptypes will surely fit a nice niche, adding spice to the battles out there. I can already say from own experience that the Marauders are brilliant, still pretty costly, but efficient at what they are ment to do.

The one ship I’m enjoying most at the moment is still the stealth bombers. In groups of say 5 or 6, these small missile batteries can pack some punch. I hope I can put up some flick soon from one of the engagements with them :-)

E-ON #10

I have just read through my first E-ON and I must say it was well worth the $14.95 they debited my creditcard. Came home in my mailbox after about 7 days and I was suprised that the contents was so well written.

Here are the highlights that I liked;

Fanfest: Round table round-up

This section covered some round table topics from the annual fanfest held in Reykjavik, Iceland. It was amusing to read the PvP part where players thought Amarr was underpowered compared to the other races. Well, what about Caldari? Someone even thought that they should change so laser crystals would do explosive damage :-)

Alliance profiles

This issue had 2 alliances covered with in-depth interviews with alliance directors. Triumvirate was first out and second was Hedonistic Imperative. Was funny to read history of TRI since I had contact with them before, but interesting as well to read about RELAX and their booster production.

Testflight

Towards the end of the magazine they had looked at the different tech1 cruisers and how they could be used in PvP. This was funny reading to see how they suggested that you would fit your ship. Some interesting trends were clear, nos was more or less non-existing and ECM mods were pretty frequent in the builds. They did’nt name one ship overall winner but the Rupture was praised a lot and so was the Vexor for it’s outstanding DPS.

EVE Strategic Maps

A guy I met at my work (Serenity Steele a.k.a. Shayne Smart) has been working 2 years on bringing the EVE players a complete, functional and slick map of New Eden as a whole. I really hope it will be published soon and that I will be able to make a review of it here in the weeks to come. You can check out his site over at EVE Maps.

With this issue almost read page to page, I must say I’m eager to read the next one. They really know what they are doing over at CCP Games.

Woah! New stuff coming up

I have been occupied the last couple of days with studying the EVE-API to familiar myself with the possibilities. It’s indeed looking good, with some of the features coming on here in a short bit. The drawings for the members area is shaping up and my hopes is to have it going in february, stay tuned!

Yesterday I received my first copy of E-ON. will be mighty interesting reading. Will post a short resume here as soon as I’m finised reading it.

We’ve also just finished a 7 days long war vs GoonSwarm which went good, I got sloppy and was killed once but it was no biggie. Undocked in a shuttle outside a station and opened my starmap just as 2 brave goonies came to dock. Kill death ratio was not too bad, and total amount of ISK damage was a bit over 600 mil so all in all good one :-)

There will be some new pictures coming up on the fotofeed soon, dont miss that.

All good, fly safe and happy hunting!

Work in progress

Woah, that was a bunch of video clips to process! I first thought it was just a few ones and that it would go quickly to compile it to a small video but alas I was wrong. Anyway, 2007 greatest moments is on the way, ETA next weekend most likely as work picks up for real next week and spare time is rare these days.

In the meantime, have a look at our new photofeed over at Flickr. For some odd reason you cant get a RSS from the actual picture set, but that will hopefully be solved soon too.

I had lots of fun during christmas with my minmatar pilot who I start to like more and more. I think they have the best overall PvP ships. Just take the awesome Hurricane battlecruiser, it never fails you. I posted a PvP setup for it on the forums for your pleasure.

Oh one last thing, if you are in need of a GTC just scroll down. There’s a link there to Shattered Crystal who offer really good service when it comes to EVE-Online GTC’s. I always purchase through them.

Happy holidays

I hope you’ve enjoyed your christmas break so far, mine has been great. Now I’m just looking forward to a very interesting and eventful 2008. Reflecting over the past year, I must say a lot happend. Revelations got released, with the many new cool things that came with that. Now, only about a month ago, Trinity was released. This latest patch brought a whole lot new features and a much more rich graphics engine that utilizes DirectX 10. Looking great indeed for 2008…

Another cool thing was that I met with the guy behind EVE-Maps.com at my work. The world is certainly a small place is’nt it.

I will publish a small compilation of events I experienced during 2007 before new years eve, dont miss it! Please share your own memories and moments, send them to submissions.at.eve-sweden.dot.com and I will put them up here.
